Watches |
| Watches are solid packages worn on the body and already integrating
power sources (batteries), timing functions, processing capabilities in
digital electronics and displays. it is therefore clear that increased
functionality can be integrated into watches, provided the electronics
can be shrunk to sufficiently small size. In addition watch-like devices
are being used, linked by wireless communication, to collect data from
other body worn devices, such as chest bands recording heart rate.
Such additional functions include:
-
GPS
- Altimeter
- Digital compass
- Barometer
- Depth gauge (for diving)
-
Phone
-
Heart rate monitoring
-
Compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer
-
Time (of course)
-
Digital data storage.
-
MP3 player,
- Voice output
-
Full computing capabilities, e.g. including a speech recognition
interface
- Video displays
- Video cameras
-
Energy from motion, heat, solar energy

| As an example of integrated watch functions, the
Garmin
forerunner 305 integrates watch functions, GPS, wireless links to a
foot pod pedometer sensor and heart rate monitoring chest strap.
